Dear NYSAOHN Member,
As the New England seasons change to autumn, I love spending moments overlooking the beauty of the mountains so compelling and rich in vibrant colors, it truly is my favorite season. It is with bittersweet emotions, it is near the end of my term as your NYSAOHN President. Over the two years, we have been successful in providing continuing education opportunities for our members and members in neighboring states. We also invited other professional healthcare organizations, such as case managers and safety.
NYSAOHN and local chapters have created scholarships for members to access financial assistance to attend state and regional conferences. Some chapters offer scholarships for the annual membership renewal fee. These efforts demonstrate the dedication of New York State occupational health nurses.
With pride, all NYSAOHN state and chapters have sent charitable efforts to many communities challenged by natural disasters from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Tom. It is a wonderful feeling knowing how every one has assisted and provided aid to those affected in Vermont, New York and Pennsylvania. Hurricane Irene surely devastated my home town of Bennington, Vermont. As I viewed the damage, it was surreal like something we have seen in the national and international news, but this time it was in my own backyard. I have seen how much the region has been affected and personally know many who have suffered great financial and emotional loss. To all who have helped in revitalization efforts, I thank you.
Changes at the national level of AAOHN create enthusiasm for the future of this respected organization. To help AAOHN continue to flourish we have welcomed all licensed nurses to join our organization. We also encourage our members to recruit new members!
The 2011 Northeast Conference will be held in conjunction with NECOEM and the Massachusetts State Occupational Health Nursing Association December 1-2 in Boston, MA. It is exciting for the NEAOHN to rejoin with NECOEM, for more information please go to www.neaohn.org, the early bird rates are valid thru November 11th. I look forward to seeing all of you in Newton, MA!
